This fun Dinosaur Sand kinetic play sand kit was originally a birthday gift for one of my grandsons. He enjoyed his set so much, I purchased another for my second grandson.
There are several kits on the market that combine the fun of kinetic sand and dinosaur-themed plastic toys all in one kit. I love the fact that this one includes a little foldable box to help keep the sand contained. This particular kit includes:
- Foldable sandbox
- 12 Dinosaur figures
- 11 Dinosaur molds
- Cleaning brush and dustpan
- Shovel and sculpting tools
The kit includes plenty of tools for sensory play. Kinetic sand is favored by early childhood specialists (and by children) over every other play compound.
Kinetic Play Sand – Every Grandma Play Library Should Have Some
Kinetic sand was first trademarked in 2014, but has been available under other names in slightly different mixtures since the early 1980s. Simple play sand makes up 98% of the mixture. A polymer known as polydimethylsiloxane makes up the remaining 2%. It is a relatively recent childhood play invention. It is moldable like play dough, but doesn’t stick to surfaces and doesn’t dry out.
Mold kinetic sand into shapes or leave it loose like sand. When it isn’t under pressure, its curious texture makes it almost “pourable.” You can stretch it, pound it, and more.
This kit includes cleanup tools and a great foldable sandbox. You can substitute other sensory materials like beans or rice in place of the sand.
My grandchildren will play with this fun kit for up to an hour without any adult supervision. They love to build entire dinosaur cities.
Online options exist if you are interested in a recipe to make a batch of your own kinetic sand.
